Appearance: He seems to be of medium height, as shown by the equal balance of characters taller and shorter than him. (Though he does seem on the shorter side) He has shoulder length red hair that he simply wears down without styling, and has brown eyes and quite a few freckles. Tends to wear his outfit from the Tower of Fang (one of the few not in the actual robes) but can be seen in the robes, or a brown cloak. On certain occasions, he will dress as the Black Tiger, his favorite comic book hero, and will be accompanied by some form of large animal.

Personality

Hartia is the dorky, clumsy kind of guy who is very good at alleviating tension and bringing humor to any situation (though not intentionally, and at his own expense.) He is extremely loyal to Orphen, his childhood friend, and continues to communicate with him despite the Tower of Fang’s explicit orders not to. So he can be somewhat of a rebel, but his fear for the repercussions of being caught communicating with Orphen causes him to assume the identity of the Black Tiger, one of his favorite comic book heroes. (That, and he likes dressing up in costumes and riding in on large animals.)
Despite his clumsiness, and the fact that he seems to get injured most often (second to Dortin and Volcan that is), he is no weakling when it comes to magic. While not as powerful as Orphen, he was trained by Childman, and has a great deal of potential in the Tower of Fang. (He was entrusted with the training of Majic and Eris in magic.)
He is highly intelligent, and is able to figure out when things aren’t quite right; he was the one to realize that Azalie had taken over Childman’s body, and was nearly killed as a result.
He also tends to get himself into awkward situations, unable to get the right words out, either because he swore an oath to keep something secret, or circumstance.
He also seems to have some sort of skill for taming animals, as he is seen riding many of them throughout the series.

History

It is unknown how Hartia came to be at the Tower of Fang, or whether he has family at all, but flashbacks show him being there at about the time that Orphen was. He was Orphen’s best friend, and is the only character who continually calls Orphen by his birth name, Krylancelo. When Azalie was turned into the Bloody August, Hartia tried to keep Krylancelo from acting out, but failed in his attempt. He tried to convince him to stay at the tower, but Krylancelo left, with the new order to be referred to as Orphen.
In between the five years that Orphen is looking for Azalie, Hartia has risen in the ranks enough to be Childman's assistant. He becomes aware of the plan for the Bloody August, and what the Tower plans to do to Orphen if he continues to intervene. Despite the strict orders not to communicate with the deserted sorcerer, he assumes the identity of his favorite comic book hero, the Black Tiger, to warn Orphen. Orphen however, does not listen to Hartia, and Hartia makes many appearances in the attempt to protect his friend.
Hartia is aware of Childman's true intentions of saving Azalie, but made a promise not to tell anyone; thus he is unable to tell Orphen, and Orphen mistakenly believes Childman is trying to kill Azalie.
When Azalie switches bodies with Childman, Hartia is the first to figure it out, and is nearly killed by Azalie as a result.
At the end of the series, Hartia is entrusted with teaching Magic and Eris magic.

Story at Elysium

Upon his arrival to the ship, Hartia was horrified to discover he had not read the fine print regarding the removal of his magic. A part of him is still in denial, and still attempts to cast spells, thinking his magic will at some point return. Also, he wishes not to be out of practice in case he has to leave, or some other method of regain his magic arises.
In order to receive extra credits, Hartia has taken a job at the library, and is commonly found there, as there is a rather large comic book section, as well as a good section for actually reading.
With regards to interaction among his fellow ship-mates, Hartia has found himself a little shy, slightly intimidated by the fact that most on the ship already seem to know each other. He attempted to figure out what Pokemon were when James explained it to him, but he still doesn't understand anything beyond the basic idea that they are animals. He has also made some contact with Volkner, in the attempt to be more sociable.
He is also trying to figure out how to fix the heating system on the Acheron Deck, and is failing miserably, as he has no mechanical inclination, and no magic to repair it with.
His lack of magic has lead to some interesting encounters with technology, such as when he could not control the volume of the speakers. It was through that encounter that he met Mello, and indirectly Raito (after Mello sprayed him in the face with hot sauce.)
